Wiseman counts among his artistic and philosophical influences figures as diverse and visionary as Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., Jimi Hendrix, William Shakespeare, M.C. Escher, Salvador Dalí, and Leonardo da Vinci each contributing to the mosaic of his creative identity.
Hailing from London’s storied East End, Richard spent his early years journeying across the UK, cultivating a deep-rooted thirst for exploration. This wanderlust eventually led him to travel the world first as a member of the British Royal Navy, then as a free spirit alongside close companions. These formative experiences profoundly shaped his worldview and continue to inform the themes woven into his art.
India, in particular, left an indelible mark on his soul. The country’s spiritual richness lent a mystical dimension to his work, one that Richard wholeheartedly attributes to the sacred essence of the region. His artistic lens has been broadened by encounters with cultures across the globe most notably the Aboriginal Dreamtime mythology,
whose symbolic depth stirred something within him. Equally compelling to Richard are the mythologies of Native American tribes, which he sees as deeply aligned with the Celtic and Druidic traditions of his heritage. “They all seem to work with nature’s law, instead of trying to control it,”
Richard’s artistic journey knows no borders. Over the years, he has illustrated science fiction publications, crafted expansive murals, and transformed sidewalks into fleeting galleries of chalk and imagination. For a time, he immersed himself in rave culture, creating massive banners and ogham-inspired visual tapestries that pulsed with color and symbolism. Now, his creative focus lies in poster art
a form he has mastered with passion and precision. Today, Richard thrives in the vibrant artistic energy of the Bay Area, where he continues to push the boundaries of his visual storytelling.
